Putting Sleep Disorders to Rest in Medically Complex Patients

Continuing Professional Development Workshop accredited by University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine

This 3.0-hour workshop ( 2-hours synchronous session and 1-hour asynchronous online activities) will address the complex relationship between sleep and mental illness. Participants will learn to apply a comprehensive approach to assessing and managing sleep complaints in patients with psychiatric and medical comorbidities, as well as how to develop a care plan in collaboration with inter-professional team members and patients to support patient’s sleep management. Workshop participants will reflect on patient encounters and resource limitations through case studies and will learn about the relevant resources to improve patient sleep outcomes and experiences.

Workshop Facilitator:

  • Dr. Raed Hawa, MSc, MD, FRCP, DABSM, DABPN. Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto; Deputy Psychiatrist in Chief, University Health Network

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive 3 credits/hours (Mainpro+ or Section 1).

  • 1-hour Flexible - Complete pre and post requirements online
  • 2-hours Scheduled Session, October 26th, 5:30 - 7:30pm

Who Should Register?

All healthcare teams and providers (i.e. nurses, physicians, social workers, occupational and physical therapists etc.), as well as managers and administrators in primary care, hospital, long-term care and community care settings who are working with patients and families to address complex care issues, with a particular focus on co-existing mental and physical needs may register.

MP3C is a University of Toronto accredited Continuing Professional Development Certificate program and has been approved as a Certificate of Completion in Continuing Professional Development for 39.0 hours.

All MP3C events (courses, workshops) are individually accredited for Section 1 credits and Mainpro+ hours, and can be taken based on interest without pursuing the certificate program.
